You want to use PHP to read a remote computer's serial or USB port remotely? That's not possible. Steve Lawler Dark Percussive House & Techno more. The client machine with the scale(s) would most likely be windows machines, I suppose we could set up one machine specifically for the scale though, that could linux-based if it'd be easier, I suppose, though I'd prefer not to go this route. The client machine obviously wouldn't be the server, but I was thinking I could read the serial port by specifing something like this: dio_open('129.168.0.120:COM1') or maybe fopen? Would this suffice for this project? Any other solutions. From the research I've already done, there is a direct I/O (DIO) package in php, though it was built in with php4 and is now a pecl package for php5. The situation I envision is as such: The user chooses which scale they want (assuming there isn't just one) and presses a button to read the weight off that scale (assuming there is something on it). I'm investigating if it would be possible to read from a serial port or USB port - the scale has both connections available. We have a web application (PHP-based) that involves part weights. ![]()
